So I’m sure you’ve seen this around and wondered what exactly is The Next Big Thing Blog Hop. Basically it’s a chance for hard working writers’ to show the world what they are working on or have recently published. We are asked a series of questions and I will link the writer who will do the same thing in their blog next week. I was tagged by Kristy Cato who discussed her work The Dance with My First Love.
So here are my answers:
What is the working title of your book/story/whatever?
My published novel is entitled Haven: The First Taste and is the first of a series I am working on currently.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
I started the Haven series as a way to personally journal my experiences in the BDSM lifestyle as an African American lesbian.
What genre does your book fall under?
Definitely erotica. Although it is written from a lesbian perspective it speaks to anyone who has struggled emotionally and mentally with their love for kink.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I have thought of Haven as a movie but when I see it played out before my eyes I see the people in my life who inspired the characters. It would be crucial to the story-line for the actors to embrace the emotions of the story and I think only those people I had in mind as I wrote it could do it.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Haven is a lesbian erotica novel hat traipses the line that separates vanilla lovemaking from the world of kink and explores the emotions that create the foundation of both worlds.
What is the longer synopsis of your book?
Nicole is a business savvy lesbian that has a craving that involves the world of dominance and kink. During her exploration of her sexual desires, she comes across an aggressive dominating woman that may be the answer to her all of her prayers.
In my novel, Haven, we follow Nicole on her journey through the world of dominance and extreme sexual desire. Her mind is riddled with thoughts of sexual deviancy and cravings, which lead her to cruise personal ads in hopes of finding someone who understands her needs and fantasies. Nicole gets a little more than she bargains for when she answers and ad placed by someone known only to her as Daddy. Daddy opens Nicole up to a world she only thought she knew and cradles Nicole’s mind turning it into a haven compiled of erotic dreams and images of masturbation. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
My novel was published by LM Inc.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
My first rough draft probably took a year. However I did stop and start a lot in the writing process.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
When I was discovering my sexual identity I did a lot of research and I simply didn’t find a plethora of stories about little black girls who had an insatiable appetite for fetishes and kinks. I also knew that what I was going through had more to do with my emotional self than my sex-life. Because my hunger had become insatiable, I decided to keep to myself but I also needed an outlet and so I began to journal; eventually my ramblings turned into Haven.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Haven isn’t just about bondage and fisting. It truly explores the emotional conflicts one may experience when making the decision to leave the vanilla world for the complexities of a BDSM lifestyle. Haven will commingle with your bloodstream and send your mind to roam a place you only acknowledge in secret. If you are looking for a place of acceptance, visit Haven, we never turn anyone away. Haven is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and LM Inc. Purchase info can be found here.
Next week I will be followed by the lovely Anondra “Kat” Williams. I’m sure it will be a yummy Q & A.
